Meet the Founder

David Ferreira, Founder of EYRA

Every time I bought sunglasses, I felt the same frustration. The options were either loud luxury with inflated price tags — paying for a logo more than a lens — or cheap frames that felt wrong the moment you picked them up. Nothing in between felt honest. Nothing felt built with real intention.

I spent 25 years leading commercial organizations at Nestlé, Bel Group, Unilever, Coca-Cola, JDE Peet’s, CROSS, and Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy — across 35+ countries, multiple categories, and every kind of consumer market. At Cross, I led the reading‑glasses business across Travel Retail, optical stores, and premium gift channels — a high‑volume, technically demanding optical category that sharpened my understanding of frame construction, lens quality, and consumer expectations. Cross also owned Costa Sunglasses and Native Eyewear during my tenure, giving me broader exposure to the performance eyewear space, although I wasn’t selling those lines directly.

I know what premium actually costs to make. I know the difference between a material chosen for quality and one chosen for margin. And I know when a price tag reflects craft versus brand mythology.

That knowledge made the frustration harder to ignore.

So I built what I couldn’t find. Every pair is crafted from premium acetate, metal, or a balanced combination of both — chosen for durability, comfort, and a refined feel. No oversized logos. No seasonal hype. No inflated pricing. Just clarity, comfort, and quiet confidence.

David Ferreira, Founder of EYRA

EYRA was founded in Boston with a simple idea: premium sunglasses shouldn’t require a luxury markup. After 25 years working across global consumer goods and optical categories, we saw how much eyewear pricing was driven by branding, licensing, and marketing — not materials or craftsmanship.

Most sunglasses under $200 use low‑cost TAC or basic polycarbonate lenses. EYRA uses optical‑grade nylon polarized lenses, the same material found in luxury eyewear because it delivers sharper clarity, higher impact resistance, and true‑to‑life color. Nylon is lighter, stronger, and optically superior to TAC, making it the premium choice for long‑term durability and visual performance.

Our frames are crafted from hand‑finished acetate or stainless steel, engineered for balanced ergonomics and all‑day comfort. Every detail — from hinge construction to finishing — is designed with intention and built to last.

The result: luxury‑grade materials and optical performance, without the luxury markup. Designed in Boston. Built for clarity. Made to last.
